Basic Purpose of the Job:
Under specific direction, provides a variety of administrative support for the Municipal Court such as answering and responding to phone calls, assisting customers and clients, cashier duties, setting up for court and attending court. Work under the general direction and guidance of the Lead Court Clerk. Must be able to work under minimal supervision and exercise sound independent judgment.

Work Environment:
Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment with occasional exposure to outside elements. Subject to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Routinely communicates with and meets with employees and citizens and must be able to travel back and forth between buildings to carry out necessary functions of this position.

- Provide customer service to Municipal Court defendants, their families, attorneys, and members of law enforcement, by greeting walk in customers, receiving telephone calls, sending and receiving emails, and responding to needs and questions of individuals.
- Assist with courtroom setup and needs of judge during weekly court proceedings.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties including cashiering, uploading documents, and entering citations using Case Management Software. This will familiarize the employee with the Codes and Ordinances used by the City of Montrose and the penalties and ranges of punishments of offenses.
- Perform a variety of word processing duties, such as composing correspondence to the parties and preparing motions and orders for the Court.
- Assist with preparation for Bench and Jury Trials as requested by the Lead Clerk.
- Must always maintain confidentiality of clients.
- Must be able to work Thursdays and a flexible schedule depending upon needs.
- Provide brief presentation to City Council regarding the accomplishments of the internship at the end of the semester.

- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Must have a positive welcoming attitude with excellent customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word.
- Strong quantitative, analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work under strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):
- High school diploma or GED and must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or college.
- Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
