This part-time position will be appointed by the City Council and will serve as the Chief executive of the Municipal Court responsible for impartially carrying out all duties and responsibilities of the Municipal Court in accordance with the Montrose City Charter, Montrose Municipal Code, and any applicable State and/or Federal Laws affecting the Court. This position is also responsible for the administration and implementation of Teen Court.

Essential Duties and Responsbilities
(Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
- Maintains familiarity with the substantive law and procedure applicable to criminal cases generally and municipal courts specifically. Understands the jurisdictional authority with which the court is vested. Has knowledge of the type of offenses that may be heard and the legal basis for court action.
- Establishes local rules and procedures and adopts Administrative Orders for this court.
- Collaborates with Court Administrator regarding all Court Policies and Procedures.
- Establishes and adopts a Schedule of Fines in accordance with Colorado Statute and Montrose Municipal Code as deemed appropriate by the City Council.
- Commands respect for judicial authority. Treats all persons who come before the court with professionalism, impartiality, and fairness.
- Solely responsible for hearing and disposition of all cases filed in the municipal court.
- Makes rulings on all motions filed. Answers requests from defendants.
- Presides over municipal court advisements, trials, and hearings/reviews as necessary.
- Appoints alternate and/or assistant judges.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado.
- Experience in Criminal Law preferable.
- Prior judicial and criminal law experience preferred.
Salary : $50,000
