Streets Truck Driver
HOURS : Monday-Friday 7 : 00am-3 : 30pm. Flexibility. Hours may vary and some weekends generally during the winter when snow.
On-call rotation (every 5 weeks) generally fall through spring Monday midnight-8 : 30am, Tuesday-Friday 11 : 00 pm to 7 : 30 am. Receive 4 hours of paid time for on-call week. If called in to work, receive over time.
The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Truck Driver in the Streets division of the Public Works Department. This position will operate various trucks, tractors and related equipment. Work will include operating trucks on road maintenance and street construction crews, hauling snow, street sweeping sand, and other materials. Additionally will operate snow plows and ice control equipment. Performs physical work such as filling street potholes, shoveling, mowing grass, installing signs, and other duties as assigned.
HIRING RANGE : $23.69 to $24.67. ($49,280 to $51,324). The full salary range is $23.69 to $33.57 ($49,280 to $69,841)
SALARY INCREASES : Receive a salary increase on your anniversary date each year.
Additionally, receive a 6% COLA increase in January 2026 and a 6% COLA increase in January 2027 per Union contract.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates trucks on road maintenance and street construction crews hauling snow, street sweepings, sand, wood chips, asphalt and other materials.
Operates snow plowing and ice control equipment; plows snow, applies salt / sand, flushes streets and sidewalks; operates tandem truck, pay loader, street sweeper, front-end loader, water tank truck, pay loader and similar automotive equipment.
Performs routine maintenance and inspection on equipment including trucks, plow equipment, power tools, small engines, rollers; includes lifting / installing cutting edges and plow wings.
Operates skid steer loaders, chain saws, jackhammers, crack routers, pavement scarifiers, asphalt kettles, plate packers and various other equipment.
Adjusts manhole castings to include placing rings, risers, castings and covers.
Chips ice and clears debris from catch basins
Fills streets potholes.
Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of street signs.
Maintains athletic fields including lining fields, installing hockey equipment and flooding ice rinks.
Maintains parking lots, park grounds and bike trails by shoveling snow, mowing grass, edging and performing miscellaneous repairs.
Prepares and sprays chemicals to control weeds in City common areas, parks and athletic fields.
Oversees and trains seasonal employees.
Performs traffic control / proper signage at work sites.
Performs safety checks on shop equipment, park maintenance vehicles and specialized turf care equipment.
Performs interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing and carpentry.
Assists with operating high-pressure steam boiler.
Maintains records and files.
Performs other duties as requested.
Attendance at off-site courses / trainings / seminars may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
To perform the Streets Truck Driver position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
High school diploma or GED
6 months experience performing construction work or related
Valid commercial driver's license with Class "B" and air brake endorsement
Tanker endorsement within one year of hire
Special Boiler License within one year of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
The Truck Driver position requires general knowledge of the principles and practices of operating various trucks and tractors; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of varied trucks and tractors; ability to read and interpret maps and engineering drawings; skill in using equipment to which assigned; ability to prepare and file simple reports; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
The Truck Driver position requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and lifting, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and / or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and / or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
