Make a difference in the lives of our community children while teaching this traditional preschool program to help children learn motor and social skills, speech, and language.  If this opportunity aligns with your skills and career aspirations, we encourage you to apply and make a meaningful difference in Moorpark as part of our close-knit team.  Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the preschool teacher plans and implements preschool programs; supervises and manages the learning activities of children; provides on-site supervision and implementation of preschool and recreation programs; and performs a variety of tasks related to maintaining safe and healthy preschool and recreation program facilities, including setting up and cleaning up for preschool and recreation programs and performing light custodial duties. This position is part-time, hourly and not overtime exempt.

  • Plan, organize, and lead developmentally appropriate activities to promote the cognitive, social and emotional, speech and language, and fine and gross motor skill development of children; assist the assigned supervisor with the development of curriculum.
  • Prepare supplies and materials for lesson plans, snacks, and other program activities; monitor the use of supplies, materials, and equipment; and guide children in the appropriate use of supplies, materials, and equipment; monitor inventory and make recommendations for purchases.
  • Supervise and care for children; enforce rules and provide appropriate guidance and discipline to ensure safety; assist children with hygiene and toileting as necessary.
  • Open and close facilities; set-up and clean-up for preschool and recreational programs; maintain neat and orderly facilities; perform light custodial duties as needed.
  • Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
  • Provide information and respond to inquiries from program participants; prepare written materials such as monthly bulletins and snack schedules for participants.
  • Observe and document children's progress toward desired development goals; develop written progress reports; participate in parent/teacher conferences.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Provide direction to parent volunteers.
  • Provide responsible staff assistance and support to the assigned supervisor.
Knowledge of:
  • Development, behavior, and needs of children.
  • Theory and practice of early childhood education.
  • Instructional methods and techniques.
  • Methods of observing, evaluating, and documenting child behaviors and development.
  • Principals of health and safety.
  • Proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Basic first-aid methods and techniques.
  • Computer software programs including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Ability to:
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children and adults.
  • Maintain audio/visual acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Maintain mental capacity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Schedule and direct the work of volunteers.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Operate and use modern office equipment including computer, printers, and copiers.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: No less than 1,800 hours early childhood teaching experience in an organizational setting (licensed preschool, school district, park and recreation agency, or other public agency).

Training: Equivalent to an associate's degree in education, child development, or closely related field with completion of no less than twelve (12) early childhood education units at an accredited college or university.


License or Certificate:

  • Possession of a valid first aid and CPR certificate, including pediatric first aid and CPR.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver's license.
Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; exposure to outside atmospheric conditions; may work in or around water and slippery surfaces; exposure to audio/video equipment and computer screens.
Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time; travel to various locations; medium lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; balancing; reaching; handling; use of fingers; talking; hearing; near visual acuity.

Salary : $23 - $25
