OUR POSITION
The Animal Services Division Manager, under general direction, is responsible for the overall management, direction, and operation of the City's animal services programs. This role includes the licensing of animals, enforcement of city ordinances related to stray animals, and ensuring the proper care and treatment of animals in the city shelter. The manager coordinates activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies, requiring extensive interaction with the community, pet owners, and various stakeholders. The position demands a high degree of administrative discretion, effective handling of sensitive and potentially controversial issues, and the ability to implement and evaluate operational plans, programs, and procedures.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Animal Services Division Manager position is a dynamic and experienced leader with a deep understanding of animal services operations and regulations. They possess extensive knowledge of principles and practices related to animal care, shelter management, and animal control laws. This individual is adept at managing and supervising staff, ensuring a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment. They have a proven track record of successfully handling complex and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy, conducting thorough investigations, and making sound, independent decisions. The ideal candidate is also proficient in public administration, including budgeting, record maintenance, and public outreach. They excel in building effective working relationships with city management, community representatives, and the public, and are committed to promoting the humane treatment and proper care of animals within the community.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or a closely related field; OR, equivalent related work experience; AND
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the care and handling of domestic and wild animals; AND
At least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory or program/project management capacity.
