OUR POSITION
The Laborer role, under the guidance of the Lead Public Works Maintenance Worker, involves performing routine street maintenance and related duties. Responsibilities include cleaning and servicing street areas, repairing potholes, operating small power tools and equipment, and providing quality customer service. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and may include working weekends and holidays.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Laborer role is a proactive and reliable individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for public service. The candidate should have the ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately, work independently with minimal supervision, and establish effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. Physical stamina is essential, as the role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and handling tasks that require bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a courteous attitude, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and well-serviced street areas for the community. Prior experience in street maintenance, traffic control and related duties is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent; prior experience in landscaping or landscape maintenance work is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
THE MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS DIVISION
The Maintenance and Operations Division maintains the City's streets, curb and gutters, sidewalks, residential trees in the right-of-way, medians, catch basins and drainage facilities, street sweeping, and graffiti removal.
