Municipal ACCOUNTANT

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified/Licensed Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing governmental financial operations, ensuring compliance with State of Tennessee Comptroller standards, and providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. This position requires a strong understanding of government finance principles, as well as proficiency in local government financial software and reporting.

Duties

• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and manage accounts receivable processes to maintain optimal cash flow.
• Develop and implement accrual accounting practices to enhance financial reporting accuracy.
• Stay updated on tax regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws.
• Utilize financial software to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
• Proven experience in government finance accounting roles.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and accrual accounting practices.
• Proficiency in NexGen financial software applications for reporting and analysis.
• Excellent skills in financial report writing with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Experience with balance sheet reconciliation and accounts receivable management.

• Reports directly to the Mayor
