JOB SUMMARY
This position provides customer services to patrons of the Museum & Art Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Opens facility to the public at the start of the day; closes and locks facility.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
- Relays visitor comments, suggestions, and requests to appropriate staff.
- Fulfills tasks related to the upkeep of the Visitor Information Center.
- Processes customer sales.
- Forwards daily cash deposits to the Finance department; completes daily cash reconciliations.
- Monitors registers to ensure adequate change; makes change at the bank as needed.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment.
- Designs posters and flyers for events and shows.
- Assists with arts and crafts programs.
- Orders new wholesale items for the store.
- Tracks Museum visitors.
- Assists with preparing mass mailings.
- Updates events calendar on City website and sends automatic email notifications to subscribers.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of City and Museum policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the provision of customer services.
- Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaker highly desired.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Museum & Art Center Superintendent assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include Museum policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to perform customer service duties in support of Museum operations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.
- Some Saturdays and evenings required.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other City employees, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed at the Museum front desk, gallery, or store.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
