Job Description
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Assistant is responsible assisting the Recreation team with various activities as outlined in the Essential Functions of the position.
Essential Functions
- Plan, organize, and teach recreation classes.
- Plan and organize special activities/events.
- Distribute and maintain equipment
- Maintain discipline and enforce regulations
- Open and close recreation centers and related facilities if necessary for program.
- Ensure the safety of recreation center patrons.
- Administer first aid.
- Supervise the use and ensure the security of the facility where program is taking place.
- Provide information to the public.
- Help register participants in classes.
- Maintain records and attendance logs as necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of reports.
- Perform general maintenance work such as cleaning tables, chairs, and spaces where activities are taking place.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required by the Position
- Ability to interact with the public.
- Evaluate and understand the needs of the members participating in their program.
- Anticipate and prevent accidents.
- Comply with program policies and procedures.
- Communicate with Recreation Supervisor and other Recreation staff for program and personal needs.
- Use good judgement, understanding, reliability, and emotional stability.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
Supervisory Controls
The Recreation Assistant will work individually or with another Recreation Assistant if the program requires it. The Recreation Supervisor will ensure the Recreation Assistant is following proper protocols and procedures in programs and classes.
Guidelines
Guidelines include Moses Lake Parkes and Recreation and the Larson Recreation Center policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of working with the public and meeting their needs as far as it pertains to the specific program or class.
- The purpose of this position is to provide additional support to the Recreation Department, including support of Larson Recreation Center programs and classes as needed.
Contacts
- Contacts are typically with participants in the programs or classes, members of the Larson Recreation Center, Building Attendants, and the Recreation Supervisor.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, facilitate classes, and motivate participants.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Operating standard office equipment, speakers, and computers.
- Full range of physical abilities that pertain to your class, if applicable. Examples include dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, and stretching.
- Lift dumbbells, barbells, and other weights if necessary.
May need to sit for long periods of time if the programs require it. Examples may include tutoring programs.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility
None.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a minimum of a child/adult CPR certification or be willing to attain certification upon hire.
- Previous experience teaching at an organization is highly preferred.
- Experience working with the general public.
