Maintenance Worker - Storm Water
Public Works
Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $16.93 - $21.72/hr. DOQ
Provides support for the Public Works Department projects citywide. Provides maintenance to the storm water retention ponds within the City of Mount Dora area, and supports other Public Works functions to include concrete, tree work, signs and barricades, sanitation, and ROW maintenance. This is heavy manual work involving limited skills in various maintenance and construction tasks.
Essential Duties:
- Maintains storm water retention ponds within the City of Mount Dora area; mowing sides and bottoms (when safety accessible) of the retention ponds; trimming the edges and fence lines.
- Provide support for the Public Works projects including: traffic control, material transport, manual labor support, and Vac Truck and Street Sweeper operations support.
- Responsible for inspection and utilizing all safety equipment and apparel, which is provided, in accordance with standard operating procedures within the division.
- Responsible for keeping building and reporting areas clean.
- Performs related duties as required and other such work as may be assigned.
- Applies herbicides as required for storm water maintenance.
- Available for call back for emergencies.
- Work requires constant standing and walking, very frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- Sweeping and cleaning work area.
- Sweeping and cleaning storm drains and structures throughout the City area.
- Assists in tree planting and removal and related tasks.
- Assists in concrete removal and installation and related tasks.
- Assists in sign removal, installation, and maintenance and related tasks.
- Assist in right-of-way maintenance, mowing, cleanup, and related tasks.
- Work will include carpentry, concrete finishing, digging, assembling forms, assembling and installing signs, moving barricades, mowing, operating handheld power equipment, operating a tractor, backhoe, and other related construction equipment, pulling trailers, operating dump truck, using a chainsaw, wood chipper, and other related tree removal equipment, and other forms of manual labor.
- Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required)
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalency and one (1) year experience as a general laborer.
- A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Must obtain FDEP Inspectors License within one (1) year.
- Must obtain Stormwater Operator Level 1 within one (1) year.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must obtain, within 6 months of hire date, a Class-B or higher Florida Commercial Driver’s License.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
