Utility Service Worker – Distribution
Public Works & Utilities
Full-time, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $16.22/hr - $21.11/hr DOQ
This is skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of city utility mains and facilities. The employee in this class participates in a variety of tasks in connection with construction, maintenance and repair of the City water distribution and sewage system. Assignments are received in either written or oral form. Work is preformed under the general supervision of a supervisor and is checked in progress and upon completion.
Essential Duties:
- Participates in laying and fitting of water mains, fire hydrants, making taps for service connections, setting meters, and construction of meter boxes.
- Repairs and maintains fire hydrants, mains, services, and other facilities.
- Assists in location of sewer laterals and mains as well as water mains and services .
- May assist with cleaning main sewer lines; unstop clogged sewer lines; operates rodding machine and other equipment to facilitate effective utility services.
- May Assist with laying and fitting of sewer lines, operates and cleans lift stations, checks manholes, digs and backfills ditches.
- May operate light equipment
- Operates mini excavator, backhoe, skid steer, and fork lift.
- Repairs and maintains plumbing in all City building and parks.
- Helps with repairs at Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants.
- Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Floria Driver’s License is required and a Class B CDL is required within 18 months of employment)
- Performs related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED.
- Some experience in the construction, repair and maintenance of utilities distribution and collection facilities; or and equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid Florida Driver’s License is required
- A valid Florida Commercial B Driver’s License is required after 18 months of employment
- A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Florida state issued Class 3 Water Distribution License within 12 months of hire in the water distribution dept.
- Must have or be able to obtain a C Wastewater Technician certification within 12 months of hire in the wastewater collection dept.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
