The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking a customer service-focused and team-oriented individual to join its Recreation Department/Partners Empowering All Kids Program (PEAK) team. Use your skills to work closely with and support our community in providing school-aged children with educational, enrichment, and recreational activities. The successful candidate will work closely with residents, community partners, and staff to deliver a variety of recreation/PEAK opportunities throughout our community.
A high school diploma and two years of responsible clerical experience, or two years of college and six months of responsible clerical experience are required. The successful candidate must possess demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of office equipment, grammar, problem-solving skills, time management, and enjoy working with the public in a team-based environment.
The successful candidate will be organized, forward thinking, and people-oriented, with exceptional customer service skills. Familiarity with State of Michigan Child Care Licensing guidelines is preferred, but not required. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with Mt. Pleasant Public Schools, employees, volunteers, participants, and the public is an expectation.
The work schedule for this part-time position is Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The major responsibilities include, among others:
Hiring wage is $19.74/hour to $20.40/hour, depending on qualifications. The 2025 maximum pay for an Office Professional I is $24.05/hour. Maximum pay is available after one or two years of employment, depending on the rate of pay received upon hire. Wage rate information is available in the TPOAM union contract. Advancement to higher level Office Professional classification with increased compensation is available. Such advancement opportunities involve skills testing.

The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.
