JOB DESCRIPTIONCITY OF MUNCIE Position No. : Last Review : 2 / 12 / 2003Effective Date : 7 / 15 / 92Last Revision : 2 / 12 / 03FLSA : Exempt Non-ExemptUnion Eligible : Yes X NoPosition Title : Truck Driver IDepartment(s) : Street DepartmentReports to (Title) : Chief of Street MaintenanceHourly Rate : $20.22PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS : Incumbent serves as Truck Driver for the City Street Department responsible for operating City vehicles and equipment.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : 1. Operates various types of trucks and related equipment including tractors, dump trucks (both over and under 26,000 lbs.), Patch Master, chipper, and chain saw for the maintenance and repair of City streets, right-of-ways, and City owned property.2. Patches, chips, and seals roads, digs ditches, scrapes, grades and maintains road beams and shoulders, as needed.3. Loads, dumps, and shovels crushed stone, sand, and salt from trucks, and removes snow from City streets using appropriate equipment.4. Regularly checks trucks and equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions.5. Removes debris such as leaves and sand from streets, sidewalks, drains, and alleys, using appropriate equipment.6. Trims and clears trees / brush from City streets and right-of-ways using chain saws and chippers.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS : 1. Operates mower, and street sweeper, to clean and maintain City streets and right-of-ways, as assigned.2. On 24 hour call in case of emergencies.WORKING CONDITIONS : The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Working knowledge of and ability to operate trucks and related equipment. (M,P)2. Basic knowledge of the mechanics of light and heavy equipment and ability to perform preventative maintenance and minor repair. (M,P)3. Working knowledge of safety procedures for working in or around heavy equipment, and / or working around traffic. (M)4. Ability to legally operate assigned department vehicles. (M,P)5. Ability to follow verbal instructions. (M,P)6. Ability to handle a chain saw and / or chipper. (P)7. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (M,P)8. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds. (P)EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Incumbent is responsible for the safe and effective operation of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment under moderate supervision of department supervisors. Specialized instructions and clarifications are given by supervisors in regard to unusual or difficult assignments, and majority of work is reviewed in process and upon completion to ensure proper work sequences and adherence to instructions.
