DESCRIPTION
This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this position is to develop, plan and coordinate programs and activities for the public of all age groups.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Functions:
Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates diversified programming in specialized areas of focus.
- Coordinates with supervisors and other department staff to accomplish programming goals, conducts and actively participates in scheduled activities. Delivers specialty services, specific to the goals of assigned area, and leads and participates in the success of the program as a whole.
- Interacts with patrons to provide a positive customer experience. Provides accurate information regarding activities and services.
- Maintains inventory, sets up and takes down, operates and takes responsibility for AV equipment, or other facility equipment.
- Coordinates facility staffing needs and supervises assigned staff and volunteers.
- Maintains records and reports, reviews and signs time sheets of staff.
- Generates supply lists for areas within the facility and submits maintenance requests.
- Reconciles receipts, make bank deposits, and manages funds.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Performs work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, stretching, or lifting all of the time.
- Involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
This position will oversee and support various museum functions, including collection management, exhibit development, educational outreach, and public engagement. It requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with a passion for history, art, or culture and a strong commitment to preserving and sharing the museum's collections with the public. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cataloging and Collection Management:
- Oversee the cataloging and documentation of artifacts, photographs, documents, and other items in the museum’s collection.
- Ensure proper storage, preservation, and care of all collection items.
- Maintain accurate collection records, including accession, condition, and provenance details.
2. Exhibit Development:
- Assist in the planning, design, and installation of temporary and permanent exhibits.
- Work closely with curatorial staff, designers, and educators to develop engaging and informative exhibits.
- Ensure all exhibits meet safety and environmental standards for display.
- Monitor museum and exhibit environments (temperature, humidity, light levels, etc.) to ensure optimal conditions for collection preservation.
- Make recommendations for improvements or adjustments to environmental controls.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the museum’s website, including digital exhibits and online collections.
- Collaborate with the digital media team to create virtual exhibits, educational resources, and interactive content for online audiences.
- Support the coordination and delivery of onsite educational programs, including tours, workshops, and lectures.
- Assist in organizing outreach initiatives, such as school programs, community engagement events, and public lectures.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, collectors, and institutions to source additional artifacts for the museum’s collection.
- Assist with artifact acquisition, ensuring items align with the museum’s mission and curatorial focus.
- Provide informative and engaging tours of the museum for visitors of all ages.
- Promote public engagement with the museum’s exhibits, collections, and programs.
- Experience in museum or collections management, exhibit design, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of collection management software and museum best practices.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of conservation and preservation standards.-Passion for education and public outreach.
- Familiarity with website development, digital media, and online exhibit tools.
- Experience in educational programming or community outreach.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in facility programming, recreation management, or closely related is required.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have current CPR/AED certifications or acquire certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
