The City of Murphy's Facilities Department seeks to add a Custodian position to its dynamic team! Under direct supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, the Custodian performs all housekeeping and custodial duties in all municipal locations. Prepares Council Chambers, conference rooms, and community rooms for scheduled events.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is non-exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #22.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.

- Scrubs, cleans, dust, sweeps, mops and vacuums all city facilities on a scheduled basis
- Uses daily schedule to perform various tasks such as washing entrance window, cleaning fixtures/restrooms and high dusting
- Performs general housekeeping and custodial duties of City facilities to include shampooing carpets, waxing floors, collecting and disposing of trash, recycle items, floor maintenance, changing light bulbs, dusting, painting and other tasks
- Walks and/or drives to and from all municipal buildings as assigned
- Responsible for completing cleaning schedules, ensuring proper tools, supplies, materials and equipment are ordered/stocked/transported to work sites
- Prepares Council Chambers and conference rooms for scheduled events according to requested floor plan and room design setup
- Operates commercial floor care equipment - buffers, carpet extractors and miscellaneous equipment
- Ensures a safe work zone by proper use of signage, step ladders, and cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Performs work orders as scheduled for regular and preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and area under charge
- Performs minor maintenance to include hanging pictures, moving boxes and furniture and other miscellaneous duties as requested
- Arranges equipment, tables and chairs for meeting events
- Monitors inventory and condition of custodial and maintenance equipment, provides periodic inventory reports and replacement equipment requests to supervisor, and cleans and performs minor servicing of equipment
- Adheres to departmental, personnel and safety rules and regulations
- Informs Superintendent of potential hazards, problem areas, public inquiries and the status of other work activities
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- One (1) year of cleaning and/or custodial experience
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policy
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- May be required to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds
- May be required to work evening, weekends, and overtime as needed
- May be required to pass a drug screen and/or pre-employment job performance assessment
