The City of Murphy Public Works Department seeks to add a Maintenance Worker II to its’ dynamic team! As our Maintenance Worker II you will perform a variety of tasks in support of the operations and maintenance of the City's water, wastewater, roadway, and stormwater systems.
Schedule Commitment
This is a full-time non-exempt position that works a standard work schedule of Monday-Friday 7am-4pm.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #28.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.

- Interact with customers regarding requests for customer service.
- Maintain Public Services Department equipment, vehicles, and tools. Keep records of general maintenance inspection on all equipment and vehicles. Conduct maintenance and equipment checks daily. Maintain inspection reports daily.
- Set up and maintain traffic control plans utilizing safety techniques as required of the TxMUTCD.
- Maintain and repair all water and wastewater system components (manholes, pipe, lift station, SCADA, elevated and ground storage tanks, pumps, fire hydrants, valves, meters, meter boxes, pipe, etc.). Repair failed pipe and fittings and meter change outs.
- Utilize chemicals such as floating degreaser, chlorine, caustic soda, and all-purpose cleaners.
- Conduct inspections and data documentation on water and wastewater stations daily, including weekends on a rotating schedule.
- Maintain and repair all stormwater system components (bridges, culverts, storm water channels, inlets, outfalls, and curbs). Repair failed pipe and inlet structures.
- Maintain, install, and replace all sign and guard rail components (posts, plates, and anchors) within the City right of way.
- Maintain and repair all roadway system components (striping, raised pavement markers (rpm), clear and trim rights of way). Sand streets prior to and during the icing of roadways; install and maintain high water barricades during excessive rain events.
- Operate a variety of equipment, vehicles, and tools such as tractors, mowers, back-hoes, skid steer, mini-excavator, jackhammers, skill saws, drills, bolt cutters, rollers, dump trucks, dozers, 1 to 5-ton vehicles, etc.
- Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries, and the status of work activities.
- Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.
- Is subject to covering/handling first-call or back-up call when assigned.
- Assist other Departments during emergencies, i.e., after accidents, traffic control, removal of property, etc.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Three (3) years of related construction, maintenance and repair of roadway and stormwater experience required.
- Three (3) years of related construction, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater experience required.
- Class “D” Water Distribution License required
- Class “C” Water Distribution License required or must obtain within eighteen (18) months of date of hire.
- Class I Wastewater Collection License required or must obtain within eighteen (18) months of date of hire.
- Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License with tankers endorsement required or must be able to obtain within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
- Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driver standards as established by the City of Murphy policy.
- Current Class “C” Water Distribution License
- Current Class I Wastewater Collection License
- Current Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tankers endorsement
- May be required to pass a drug screen and/or pre-employment job performance assessment.
- May be required to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds of equipment multiple times per day.
- May work extensive hours and must respond within forty-five (45) minutes to an on-call or emergency callback, as required. Employee will have six (6) months from employment date in which to relocate.
