The City of Murphy Parks & Rec Department seeks to add a Recreation Specialist to its’ dynamic team! As our Recreation Specialist, you will facilitate the provision of recreational activities for City citizens, accomplished by providing numerous forms of customer service at the Murphy Community Center and Murphy Activity Center..
Schedule Commitment
This is a full-time non-exempt position that works a schedule of Tuesday-Friday 12pm-9pm and requires open Saturday availability.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is non-exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #22.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.

- Provides customer service by greeting members, answering and directing phone calls, providing facility information, including class schedules, hours of operation and policies, distributing equipment, supervising member activities within facilities and by answering member questions and concerns.
- Registers citizens for memberships, classes, camps and activities by operating CIVICREC software, entering data, taking payments, filing records and providing members with pertinent information regarding the facility reservations and registration programs and memberships.
- Processes reservations for residents and non-residents for indoor and outdoor recreation facilities by operating CIVICREC software, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and filed, entering information into computer system and accepting any necessary payments.
- Oversees the setup and teardown of all indoor reservations as well as assists with all AV needs for each reservation.
- Assists with informing the community of recreational opportunities through advertising and promotions.
- Prepares for opening of facilities by organizing front desk work area, , front desk computers, , checks facilities to make sure all rooms are set up for all reservations and classes for the day, review all emails and voicemails and respond accordingly and unlocking the front entrance and MAC entrance as appropriate.
- Prepares for closing of facilities by notifying any members that you will be closing shortly, cleaning up front desk work area, sign out of front desk computers, check the facilities to make sure all rooms are set up for all reservations and classes for the following day, respond to any outstanding emails and voicemails and front entrance and MAC entrance as appropriate.
- Maintains facilities by cleaning the facility regularly throughout the day, and by reporting complaints and problems, making calls for repair, handling customer complaints where appropriate.
- Provides various administrative services by ensuring safety in all facilities, assisting with special events and providing clerical based services.
- Assist with the oversight of volunteer recruitment, retention, and organization for all small city events.
- Assists other recreation team members by engaging in daily and ongoing communication of anticipated facility schedules and notifying them of any reservations, external events or programming issues or concerns and making any necessary or recommended adjustments as necessary.
- Adheres to the charter, personnel, safety, and divisional policies and procedures of the City.
- Provides First Aid as needed.
- A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- One (1) year of related work experience
- Must possess Adult and Infant CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date
- Valid State of Texas Class C driver’s license
- Associate’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education or related field or one (1) year work experience in recreation or related field.
- Experience with recreation software
- CPR/First Aid training
