What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at City of Murphy?
The City of Murphy Police Department seeks to add a Part Time School Crossing Guard to its’ dynamic team! Under supervision of the Patrol Commander/Operations Manager, this position provides traffic control, both pedestrian and vehicular for designated crosswalks during school traffic hours.
Assists children in crossing the street during peak school traffic hours at designated school zone areas.
Regulates vehicular traffic at designated crosswalks in such a manner that safety of school age children will be significantly enhanced when using these crosswalks.
Establishes rapport with children using crosswalks to enlist their support of safety efforts.
Employs proper signals and other paraphernalia designed to assist in control of traffic.
Oversees children to ensure they walk in designated crossing areas.
Reports any malfunction of school signals to the Patrol Commander or the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief.
Directs all inquiries, complaints and concerns of the general public to the Patrol Commander or to the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief.
Maintains a positive friendly and effective working relationship with the general public and co-workers.
Reports any unsafe, hazardous, or perilous conditions to the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief.
Adheres to the personnel, safety and departmental policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with children (i.e.: day camp, church camp, public recreation, day care, etc.)
