Laborer I - Street Division

The City of Murphysboro, Illinois is accepting applications for a full-time Laborer within the Street Division of the Public Works Department. This position involves manual laboring activities requiring physical strength and coordination. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma, a valid Illinois Drivers License and have knowledge of basic hand tools and equipment. Probationary Wage is $18.50 and Post-Probationary Wage is $23.78. Job Duties Include

• Mowing Grass
• Cutting Trees and Brush
• Cleaning Catch Basins and Storm Sewers
• Patching streets and alleys
• Repair Storm Sewer
• Repair Sidewalks
• Install Street and Traffic Signage
• Spread Cinders, Salt and Sand
• Spray for Insects and Weeds
• Perform Operator Maintenance on Equipment
  
  

Applicant must be in good health and able to climb ladders, crawl in close spaces, drive a vehicle (including lawn tractors) and lift objects up to fifty (50) pounds. Applicant will be exposed to extremes of weather, noxious fumes, insects, rodents, reptiles, pollen, mold, dust and animal dander. Must be capable of sustained rigorous physical labor.
