Class Title: Code Enforcement Officer
Pay Grade: $20.53 - 22.75/ hr - Non-exempt

Class Characteristics: Under general administrative direction, conducts skilled inspection and enforcement of municipal codes for street parking, animals, nuisances, business license and property maintenance code, (Chapters 71, 72, 90, 99, 110, and 156, and 158) and other City regulations through public education, the investigation of all complaints that could violate City Ordinances, and the issuance of citations; when necessary, presents evidence at administrative hearings; performs related work as required; other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Identify and investigate violations observed while in the field; issue letters of complaint for zoning code violations; ensure compliance with applicable zoning or sanitary codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Maintains ongoing public relations through courteous and prompt attention to requests to any complaint that could violate City Ordinance; issues and writes certified letters to owners or persons having control of any property that a nuisance has developed; inspects the violation after giving proper notice, and takes the criminal or civil action that is appropriate to abate the nuisance or ordinance violation.
- Enforces parking codes by issuing notices and citations for parking violations, explains codes and requisitions regarding parking violations to the public, and provides information regarding state and City parking rules and regulations.
- Checks for people conducting business without a City business license.
- Establish and maintain complete and accurate records of all violations, conditions, inspection activities and complaints; and makes daily reports on all inspections; prepares special reports as necessary.
- Reviews tax records to determine persons or companies who have control of a property where a violation has developed.
- May prepare material for court prosecution as a result of summonses or citations. Appears in court as complainant or witness as required.
- Operates a vehicle in the performance of duties and conducts daily pre and post inspections of assigned vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
Driver’s License required.
Previous experience preferred.
Must pass police background check and meet requirements for LINK/NCIC inquiry access.
