What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civic Center Maintenance Worker I position at City of Muskogee?
PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION :
Responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that municipal buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.
ESSENTIAL TASKS :
- Maintains park areas; picks up trash and debris, cleans restrooms and office / break room areas meeting rooms and arena.
- Assists in the light maintenance of the Civic Center.
- Operates hand and power tools and equipment associated with building maintenance including buffers, vacuums, etc.
- Performs cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs within the common areas of assigned building(s) and grounds. Spreads snow melting chemicals as required.
- Performs setup and takedown of tables, displays, flooring and seating for meetings and events including pre-and post-event cleaning.
- Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned.
- Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :
The Civic Center Maintenance Worker I reports directly to the Civic Center Maintenance Leader I.
The Civic Center Maintenance Worker I does not have any direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Training and Experience : High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills : Good knowledge of manual labor work practices, methods, tools and materials of varied general maintenance work; and good knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work. Knowledge of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals and handling and disposing of hazardous materials with care. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to use various types of tools and custodial equipment; and the ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, other members of the organization, and the public in giving and receiving information.

Licenses and Certificates : Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license is required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT : Work in this classification is primarily indoors. Will travel to other City locations as required. Requires ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
Notice : This classification is a “safety sensitive” position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and / or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
Salary : $12 - $17
