What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Equipment Operator position at City of Naperville, IL?
The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility is currently seeking a Utility Equipment Operator to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment involving construction and maintenance activities on a regular basis and to perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and manual labor tasks. The Equipment Operator performs semi-skilled labor in the location of electric utilities and uses a computer and software to input and extract data.
- Operates light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment such as endloaders, trenching and directional boring machines, tractor backhoes, motor graders, and heavy trucks for a variety of construction and maintenance operations in the most difficult and complex situations.
- Operates all municipal heavy equipment involving road grading, ditch digging, clearing, and cleaning.
- Operates an endloader to pick up trash, logs, and debris.
- Drives a truck and picks up debris. Hauls trash, rock, and gravel and spreads materials.
- Performs difficult manual labor including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing.
- Leads the work of a single crew.
- Installs pipe or conduit less than 5” in diameter.
- Trains employees in the use and care of maintenance equipment and machinery as assigned.
- Uses mobile computer to identify J.U.L.I.E. ticket locations and input data using ticket management software and GIS maps. Prepares and assists in the maintenance of accurate utility system maps through location records, “as built” drawings, and plans of facilities installed.
- Performs related work as required.
Required
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid State of Illinois Class D driver’s license. Must obtain a valid State of Illinois Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) and associated Medical Card within five months of hire.
Preferred
- Previous construction and/or utility locating experience.
