The City of Nelsonville is accepting applications for the position of Prosecuting Attorney.
Job overview: The prosecuting attorney will represent the City of Nelsonville in misdemeanor prosecutions at Athens County Municipal Court. This position requires strict confidentiality. Must possess a firm foundation of legal research and writing, adhere to deadline requirements at city, county, and state levels, and participate in court trials. The Prosecuting attorney will work closely with the Nelsonville Police Department as well as the City Attorney.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Prepare cases for court/trial which includes contacting victims and witnesses.
· Present cases at trial.
· Represent the City in all criminal misdemeanor cases.
· Analyze legal issues; Conduct legal research on various legal issues.
· Prepare motions, legal briefs, draft subpoenas, and draft requests for records.
· Work professionally and confidentially with defense attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement and the public.
· Perform all other duties as assigned, delegated, or otherwise required.
· Possess excellent research and writing skills with requisite understanding of relevant legal issues.
· Knowledge of computers and computer operating systems with ability to learn.
· Must possess qualities of fairness, a strong work ethic, and integrity.
· Able to conduct business in accordance with federal statutes and guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code and the Nelsonville Code of Ordinances.
· Must be meticulous, flexible to learn quickly and think critically under pressure or duress.
· Ability to meet crucial deadlines, manage time, and maintain filing requirements set out by statutes, jurisdictions, judgements, ordinances and edicts.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree.
· Juris Doctorate.
· Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.
