BASIC FUNCTION
This position is an entry - level position with limited administrative responsibility. The City Planner will work on assigned tasks under the supervision and professional guidance of the Director and Chief Planner.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Update and maintain a system of basic planning data.
- Update and maintain a system of zoning enforcement data.
- Receives, documents, and investigates allegations of zoning non-compliance.
- Take and prepare draft minutes of the meetings of the commission and Board.
- Prepare docket sketches, maps and information packets for the Commission and Board.
- Prepare staff reports for dockets as assigned by the Director.
- Inspects properties to ensure compliance with Zoning Ordinance, including photographing reported violations.
- Perform research and provide technical support for any studies or planning being conducted and prepared by the planning staff as assigned by the Director.
- Assist the staff with thoroughfare program implementation, as assigned by the Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Minimum of a college or university degree in Planning or a closely related field.
- Preferred Master's degree in Planning or closely related field.
- Preferred completion of a planning internship program.
- Knowledge of the physical aspects of an urban environment, land development, planning methods and techniques, and general research methods.
- Ability to organize, formulate and execute planning studies and conduct basic research and analysis in a guided environment.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in written form.
- Ability to interface with clients, customers, diverse commissions, boards and associations in a professional and courteous manner.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) required.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
