Under the general direction of the Mayor, organizes, monitors, and supervises street, cemetery, and storm drain maintenance operations within the Street Department; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to street and storm drain maintenance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- *Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for street, street lighting, traffic signal, and storm drain maintenance operations.
- *Establish schedules and methods for providing street maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- *Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- *Participate in the selection of street maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
- *Participate in the preparation and administration of the division budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- *Provide technical support to engineering staff by conducting traffic studies.
- *Monitor and control supplies and equipment; order supplies and tools as necessary; prepare documents for equipment procurement.
- *Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
- *Perform the most technical and complex tasks of the work unit.
- *Maintain records concerning operations and programs; prepare reports on operations and activities.
- *Coordinate with contractors in providing contract services; solicit and collect bids for new equipment and contracted maintenance work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
- This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
- Significant amount of time will be spent working outdoors and in inclimate weather (within reason and safety) to include: hot, humid, cold, rain, ice and snow.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent required.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
- A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Familiar with basic OSHA stands and safety practices.
- Experience in Streets Department and/or maintenance certification, preferred.
