The New Berlin Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dynamic Youth Services Librarian. The Youth Services Librarian will be responsible for developing and implementing services, programming, and outreach for children and their caregivers, and helping to curate an up-to-date and balanced collection of materials. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with our librarian team. Primary Functions :
The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library patrons, assisting children and their caregivers in locating and evaluating information, planning and conducting engaging youth programs, promoting youth services to the community, managing assigned library collections, serving on assigned committees, helping to create a vibrant and welcoming youth area, and administering other library services as assigned.
- Knowledge of early literacy practices, children’s literature, and storytelling techniques, and the ability to use this knowledge to create dynamic storytimes.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate programs and outreach offerings.
- Perform reference assistance, bibliographic instruction, reader’s advisory, and patron assistance services.
- Recommend materials for purchase in assigned areas, catalog and classify library materials, weed collection, and manage inventories in assigned areas.
- Assist in the library’s web administrative functions, create content, and market across social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of the Library’s digital content on a variety of platforms and the ability to assist patrons on a variety of devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited library school. Preference is given to candidates with 1-2 years of experience serving youth in a professional library environment, along with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :
