General Overview of the Position
The New Berlin Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dynamic Youth Services Librarian. The Youth Services Librarian will be responsible for developing and implementing services, programming, and outreach for children and their caregivers, and helping to curate an up-to-date and balanced collection of materials. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with our librarian team. Primary Functions: The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library patrons, assisting children and their caregivers in locating and evaluating information, planning and conducting engaging youth programs, promoting youth services to the community, managing assigned library collections, serving on assigned committees, helping to create a vibrant and welcoming youth area, and administering other library services as assigned.

To provide informational services to patrons at the New Berlin Public Library.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Knowledge of early literacy practices, children’s literature, and storytelling techniques, and the ability to use this knowledge to create dynamic storytimes.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate programs and outreach offerings.
- Perform reference assistance, bibliographic instruction, reader’s advisory and patron assistance services.
- Recommend materials for purchase in assigned areas, catalog and classify library materials, weed collection, and mange inventories in assigned areas.
- Assist in the library’s web administrative functions, create content, and market across social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of the Library’s digital content on a variety of platforms and the ability to assist patrons on a variety of devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited library school. Preference given to candidates with 1-2 years of experience serving youth in a professional library environment, along with the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to understand library principles, procedures, technology, goals, and philosophy of service, and apply them to library operations.
- Ability to use knowledge and training to serve the needs of the library productively, in addition to a willingness to commit to professional growth through continuing education.
- Ability to meet, communicate and work with patrons and co-workers effectively.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, both verbally and in written form, in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to gather statistics, analyze information, write reports and grants.
- Good oral, written and computer skills including a proficiency with Microsoft Office products; must be able to assist patrons with computer-related questions.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and special events as required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.21 - $34.02 per hour
