EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performing fire suppression activities; ensuring proper operation and maintenance of equipment.(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Responds to emergency incidents; enters burning buildings with hose lines; operates nozzles; extinguishes fire as directed, Provides medical care to level of expertise.Performs hydrant/water supply operationsPerforms rescue operations by removing persons from danger. Operates portable fire extinguishersRaises, lowers, and climb ladders; performs salvage and overhaul operations.Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning fire station and grounds.Inspects pumping apparatus and fire/rescue equipment to ensure proper working condition and readiness.Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual technical study and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.Participates in fire safety and fire education programs.Performs related tasks as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Some firefighting experience preferred.Special Requirements: Successful completion of physical agility test is required prior to employment.Fire Specialist I - Minimum age: 18 (at the time application is submitted). Twelve (12) months experience in a career Fire Department. Possession of NC Fire Fighter certification, NIMS 700/800 ICS 100/200, NC Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS), NC Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications required. Must meet and maintain all requirements for position as established by the City’s Career Development Plan and the State of North Carolina’s certification requirements. Possession of Class C driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Fire Specialist - Minimum age: 18 (at the time application is submitted). Completion of New Bern Fire Rescue’s 1403 training, NIMS 700/800, ICS 100/200, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications. Possession of Class C driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Fire Trainee - Minimum age: 18 (at the time application is submitted). Upon completion of NFPA 1403 classes, the trainee will move to a Fire Specialist position. Possession of Class C driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
