GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Oversee a team of sanitation workers, assigning routes, ensuring proper waste, bulk, and composting collection procedures are followed, managing equipment, addressing complaints, and maintaining safety standards within the city, while reporting to the Sanitation Supervisor on overall operations and performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Directly supervise a team of sanitation workers, assigning daily tasks, routes, and ensuring efficient waste collection operations.
• Plan and manage daily garbage collection routes, adjusting as needed based on weather conditions or unexpected issues.
• Participates in the manual collection of household refuse, special / bulky refuse, bagged yard waste, and compost from residential areas.
• Inspect and maintain sanitation trucks and related equipment, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any maintenance needs.
• Operates trash packer and other equipment in all weather conditions, including snow plow, gas blowers, hand tools, etc. Heavy lifting up to 75lbs on occasions.
• Enforce safety protocols for crew members, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment, and reporting hazards.
• Investigate and address resident complaints regarding missed collections, improper waste disposal, and other sanitation issues.
• Track crew productivity, monitor collection volumes, and identify areas for improvement.
• Maintain detailed logs of work activities, including routes, collection times, and any incidents.
• Provide on-the-job training to sanitation workers on proper waste collection techniques and safety procedures.
• Occasionally drives other heavy equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must possess at least 1 year of team leadership experience.
• Effectively manage and motivate a team of workers.
• Efficiently plan and execute daily collection routes while adapting to changing situations.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of sanitation truck operations and maintenance.
• Clear communication with crew members, residents, and supervisors to address concerns and provide instructions.
• Must be able to utilize basic computer and email.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to heavy work that involves sitting, walking, standing, and continuous movement of stepping on and off the truck daily. Ability to lift and load items weighing up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work in all four (4) seasons, including harsh weather conditions.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (Work Environment):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, and moving machinery.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
Class B Commercial Driver’s License required.
