What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at City of New Hope?
Under the guidance of the head lifeguard and recreation facilities supervisor, lifeguards ensure a safe aquatic park environment by enforcing rules, operating pool safety equipment, and administering first aid when needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; working in high, precarious places and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location.
Special Requirements
Ability to pass a BCA background check.
Preferred Requirements
Preferred applicants will hold lifeguard instructor or water safety instructor certifications in addition to their lifeguard certification.Benefits for this position include a flexible schedule and Earned Safe and Sick Time.
- Enforce aquatic park safety rules.
- Provide active and accurate surveillance of pool visitors.
- Perform water rescues when necessary.
- Provide First Aid.
- Work as a team to respond to safety emergencies.
- Perform related duties as required such as cleaning, organizing, and other maintenance tasks.
- Maintain positive customer service, and enthusiastically support the New Hope Parks and Recreation Department.

- General knowledge of aquatic facilities.
- Ability to swim.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- The candidate must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must have a valid lifeguard certification. If not yet certified or if recertification is needed, a free lifeguarding class option is offered at the aquatic park prior to the start of the season.
- Ability to follow written and oral direction.
- Ability to work mornings, evenings and weekends.
