Performs entry level skilled trades work performing a wide range of parks maintenance activities requiring operation of various types of light equipment and hand tools, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the streets, parks and central garage supervisor or the seasonal parks supervisor as assigned.
Full-time work through the summer, Monday through Friday 7 am - 3 pm. Flexible start and end dates but desired May 12 - August 15.Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions
  • Maintains parks and ballfields throughout the city through mowing, trash collection, weed trimming and other assigned tasks
  • Helps maintain park facilities, turf, hard courts, trees and shrubbery, etc.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
  • Drives trucks and trailers and operates equipment of various sizes and weights in loading, hauling and unloading various equipment or materials.
  • Performs routine inspection on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to appropriate personnel; cleans equipment.
  • Adjusts, lubricates or makes small repairs to equipment while in use.
  • Performs all duties to appropriate safety and security standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • General skill operating standard tools and ability to learn specialized equipment operation.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions and work without on-site supervision and make on-site decisions related to work assignments.
  • Ability to physically perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform in adverse climactic conditions.
  • Ability to acquire new job skills as different needs arise.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, consultants, other city staff, vendors and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires tasting or smelling; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Experience is preferred but not required.

Salary : $16 - $18
