What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Camp Counselor position at City of New London?
Conducts and supervises the New London Parks and Recreation Department's Camp Hatten Program under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent and the Camp Hatten Supervisor. Work includes planning and implementing crafts, games and special field trips.
Position starts at $9.75 per hour. Hours worked will be between 6:30am - 6 pm, weekdays only. First shift start at 6:30am, last shift ends at 6pm.

- Communicate with parents, campers, Camp Supervisor and all other staff in a positive and effective manner every day
- Responsible for the health and safety of all campers and fellow counselors
- Follow the activity schedule as developed by the Camp Supervisor and administrative staff unless given permission to deviate
- Assist in the development and implementation of all camp programs
- Conduct and participate in all camp activities
- Distribute daily lunches, snacks and drinks as needed throughout the day
- Help coordinate campers for bus/van field trips
- Adhere to age-group assignments unless otherwise instructed
- Collect all stray items from activity areas before leaving the site and keep area clean and orderly
- Complete cleaning duties as assigned including but not limited to general office area, appliances and bathrooms
- Follow discipline guidelines established in the staff manual and communicate to the administrative staff on a daily basis
- Document and report camper incidents and accidents to the Camp Hatten Supervisor
- Attend work and all staff meetings in a timely matter
- Pass the required criminal history background check, as a parameter for employment with Camp Hatten
- Complete other duties assigned by Recreation Superintendent
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Hold current certifications in CPR and First Aid (Camp will provide an opportunity for primary or re-certification during Camp Hatten training week)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- The counselor is expected to be in designated uniform while working. This will assist his/her identification to other staff, campers and parents.
