What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Camp Supervisor position at City of New London?
Conducts and supervises day to day activities at New London Parks and Recreation's Camp Hatten Day Camp. Work includes directing staff in leading arts and crafts, games, sports activities and daily activities, maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all counselors and youth participants.
Camp Hatten is a children's day camp that offers children in grades K-8 the opportunity for weekly theme-related playtime, structured games, day trips, weekly trips to the New London Aquatic and Fitness Center, the New London Public Library and so much more.
Wage is $13.75 per hour. The typical weekly schedule will be Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm, with some flexibility required. The season runs from late May to mid August (exact dates are flexible).

- Encourage the development of a positive atmosphere between parents, staff, participants and the general public
- Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor; schedule, delegate assignments and supervise camp counselors
- Prepare and distribute Camp Newsletter
- Follow discipline guidelines established in the staff manual and communicate to the administrative staff on a daily basis
- Guide and direct a variety of group activities
- Supervise the children in all activities to ensure a safe and meaningful experience
- Serve as chaperone for field trips
- Work with the children and staff during the daily cleanup of activities
- Maintain inventory of equipment, supplies and facilities to keep in good working condition
- Set a good example for the children through daily conduct
- Communicate with co-workers, supervisors, the public, etc.
- Plan, organize, supervise and evaluate Camp Hatten
- Document and report camper incidents and accidents to the Recreation Coordinator
- Attend work and all staff meetings in a timely matter
- Prior experience or enrollment in coursework in recreation administration, physical education, elementary education or one year of lead or supervisory experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
- Experience in working with children of all ages
- Previous experience in youth instruction, specializing in ages 3-15
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Hold current certifications in CPR and First Aid (Camp will provide an opportunity for primary or re-certification during Camp Hatten training week)
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license with a good driving record
- Wisconsin Educator Teaching License is preferred, but not required.
Work Environment:
- This position may frequently work outside and inside facilities and park shelters.
- Will work consistently in a variety of conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on occasion.
- Be able to perform activities such as carrying, walking, climbing stairs and ladders (including during emergencies), reaching, and standing for long periods of time.
