What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Parks Laborer position at City of New London?
Part-time seasonal position that assists in maintaining City parks and City property.
Wage is $12.00 per hour. Generally employed from the month of May/June through August, with some flexibility. Hours are generally worked between 6:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 6:30 am - 10:30 am Friday with rotational weekend hours.
Position will remain open for applications until it is filled.
- Experience operating gas-powered trimmers and other small motor equipment desirable
- Ability to work weekends/holidays if necessary WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position works in the outdoors and in City buildings. May occasionally work in dirt, dust, noise, odors, fumes, darkness, and vibrations. May seasonally work in heat, wetness/humidity, or sudden temperature changes. May occasionally work in mechanical or chemical hazards, heights above 10 feet and with moving vehicles/traffic. Must be able to perform activities such as carrying up to 20 pounds, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching for approximately 2-4 hours per shift. Must be able to climb stairs/ladders (including in emergencies) for one hour or more per shift.

- Operate gas-powered grass trimmers and other small motor equipment
- Stain, paint, and perform janitorial cleaning
- Pick up garbage on and around all City grounds
- Clean shelters and restrooms
- Operate Parks Department vehicles
- Weed flower beds
- Assist in grooming ball diamonds
- Maintain playground equipment
- Wash Parks Department vehicles and equipment
- Communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
- Assist with special projects under direction of the Parks Superintendent
