NYC Parks serves as the steward for over 30,000 acres of land, which includes 1,000 playgrounds, 36 recreation centers, 66 pools and 14 miles of beach. Our primary responsibility is to build and maintain clean, safe and accessible parks, and to create cultural and educational programs for New Yorkers of all ages to enjoy. The Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center in East Flatbush, will be an almost 70,000-square-foot facility with an indoor competition pool, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, cardio and strength rooms, dance studio, media lab and programming spaces. This Recreation Center will provide the community with a wide variety of sports, fitness, arts and educational programs for all ages and abilities.

Major Responsibilities
- Under direct and close supervision, with little latitude for the exercise of initiative or judgment, performs general work.
- Perform light repair and general maintenance work in a building and grounds of various public structures.
- Use hand and powered grass mowers and other equipment.
- Pick up litter, rake debris and dig pits and ditches and remove snow and ice.
- Clean interiors and exteriors of structures. Perform sidewalk and road depression repair work.
- Adjust, lubricate and make minor repairs to equipment and machinery. After appropriate training operate, maintain and winterize the chlorination and filtration equipment in indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
- Aid in the operation of chemical sewage treatment apparatus and auxiliary equipment.
- Assist in providing informational, educational and safety services to the general public in person and over the telephone.
- Complete simple reports on activities performed.
