Focusing on developing critical, equity-driven strategies across our diverse communities, MOERJ includes the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), NYC Her Future (NHF), the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), and the NYC Unity Project (UP) as well as multi-agency bodies like the NYC Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE).The NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice is hiring several new staff to contribute to this important work and help realize a vision of racial equity in New York City. Our staff develops innovative programs, policies, initiatives, and campaigns designed to measurably reduce disparities.As a critical part of the mayor’s efforts to build a stronger and healthier city, we work across city agencies and external partners to effect meaningful change. Every staffer plays an integral role in our unrelenting commitment to equity.Minimum Qualifications The Problems You’ll Solve : The NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice seeks an experienced Director of Strategic Communications & Culture. Reporting to the Chief Content Officer (CCO), this role is a critical member of the Strategic Communications & Culture team, working across marketing, communications, events and programs that reinforce the agency mission. You will also collaborate closely with the team to develop, refine, and implement engagement strategies and tactics that thoughtfully outline innovative practices. Through attention to detail, a proactive spirit and a seasoned lens, you will engage in both traditional and non-traditional initiatives that cascade efforts across all MOERJ units.RESPONSIBILITIESPress Relations Publicity : Develop and maintain up-to-date press lists, generate media interest, write press releases, and media alerts.Project Management : Maintain project pace and trajectories for successful execution of communication initiatives.Content Creation : Craft compelling and strategic editorial and graphical content across various platforms.Social Media Management : Strategize, implement, and oversee social media campaigns across multiple platforms. In addition, develop and execute influencer marketing strategies to amplify brand message.Event Management : Help plan, execute, and manage successful events that align with MOERJ goals.Internal Communications : Operate and execute employee engagement programs aligned with organizational values and mission.Team Leadership : Support and guide subordinate staff to ensure cohesive and impactful communication initiatives.Partner Relationships : Foster strong relationships with external agencies to achieve collaborative success.Reporting : Produce both quantitative and qualitative reports to measure communication effectiveness.Web Management : Assist with the editorial management of MOERJ’s website, and all unit websites, ensuring they are user-friendly and aligned with our brand(s).Consultant Management : Help identify, vet potential consultants, assist in onboarding them to internal systems.Marketing Campaigns : Assist the CCO in the development of integrated campaigns that align with overarching communication goals.
