The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) supports the Department by acquiring distributing installing and maintaining Local Area Networks personal computers mainframe computers software and data communications networks. ITSD also plans and coordinates the implementation of advanced technology.

The selected Cyber Security Analyst will :

Proactively responds to alerts and events that could threaten the Agencys information technology security posture and remediate them to prevent exploit attempts.

Characterize and analyze network traffic and server performance metrics to identify anomalous activity and potential threats with the MFT environment.

Complete appropriate patching for the MFT and DataPower gateways and servers.

Analyze and identify malicious activities to determine the means methods and details of exploitations against agency systems and applications.

Follow up on incident reports and app scan reports from Information Security to ensure proper mitigation is taking place in a timely manner.

Support the creation of business continuity / disaster recovery plans including conducting disaster recovery test publishing test results and making necessary changes to address deficiencies.

Manage security certificates from creation requests to the installation phase.

Conduct logbased and endpointbased threat detection to protect against threats from multiple sources.

Collaborate with network and security groups for firewall port requests and issues.

Research emerging threats and vulnerabilities to aid in the identification of incidents participate and contribute to the Architecture Board AERB process and act as a liaison between ITSD and other divisions / vendors.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by twentyfour (24) semester credits in cyber security network security computer science computer programming computer engineering information technology information science information systems management network administration or a pertinent scientific technical or related area; or

2. A fouryear high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in 1 above; or

3. Education and / or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in 2 above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition twentyfour (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security network security computer science computer programming computer engineering information technology information science information systems management network administration or a pertinent scientific technical or related area; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school) may be substituted for one year of experience.
