Responsibilities
The Deputy Commissioner, Public Information is seeking a Deputy Director of Digital whose responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Direct the development and execution of creative, sophisticated and high-impact digital communications strategies and efforts that advance the Department’s goals and visibility;
- Supervise staff and perform work of technical responsibility related to digital and graphic updates to the NYPD’s external website, internal intranet, and social media channels;
- Oversee online and social media marketing strategies for diverse audiences, highlighting online content that focuses on the NYPD’s work for posting to all websites and social media.
- Create and post content for NYPD’s social media presence on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Develop strategies to use multimedia content, social media, SMS, website, and other digital media tactics to reach and engage a greater number of New York City residents;
- Incorporate digital media into all communications efforts to maximize the effectiveness and reach of key messages;
- Develop a digital first strategy and culture for breaking news;
- Establish aggressive short- and long-term digital goals, and work with the broader team to execute them; and
- Work with Deputy Commissioner and executive staff on overall communications planning and implementation, including message development, strategic guidance, and coordination.
Minimum Qualifications

- At least five years of experience drafting digital communications - Knowledge of basic HTML and Adobe photoshop - Excellent writing / composition and editing skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and other similar programs - Experience with press releases, remarks, op-eds, advisories, event briefings, and similar materials - Strong research skills and attention to detail. Must have the ability to review, analyze, summarize, and visualize data - Must have the ability to work well with others
