The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Department Advocate's Office under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Department Advocate is responsible for the prosecution of disciplinary cases against members of the service both Uniform and Civilian.

The Executive Agency Counsel, serves as General Counsel to the Department Advocate's Office. This role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, including but not limited to: interfacing with the Federal Monitor, acting as the chief liaison with various outside oversight bodies, coordinating efforts with external law enforcement partners, drafting reports and responses to numerous

interrogatories regarding evolving policy decisions on behalf of the Department, supervising attorney and support staff, reviewing drafted Charges and Specifications, daily review of FOIL requests, collaborating with the leadership team, collaborating with DAO's internal Monitoring and Analysis Section (MAS), assisting the Department Commissioner Department Advocate, upon various other

duties.

The ideal candidate should be an admitted attorney with at least ten years of experience in law enforcement and criminal justice. They should possess managerial experience and a proven track record of working collaboratively with multiple agencies simultaneously. The role demands the ability to respond in writing, at a high level, with both detail and haste, to a wide variety of internal and external requests.

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
