Job Description
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is a vital part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives to reduce the jail population without compromising public safety.

Role Overview
Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Engineering Unit, this Mechanical Engineer will perform design work of moderate difficulty, including reviewing and managing consultants' work products for technical accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
Main Responsibilities
- Designing heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, and fire protection systems for complex institutional and/or jail facilities as a Mechanical Engineer with experience in these areas.
- Performing design reviews of private engineering consultants' submissions and creating in-house designs for DOC's construction program.
- Preparing project scopes, cost estimates, site surveys, facility inspections, project reports, facility condition assessment surveys, and in-house designs using AutoCAD & Revit.
- Providing technical expertise and support services for complex Departmental projects, interacting with user groups, maintenance divisions, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Four years of full-time mechanical engineering experience and a valid New York State Professional Engineer's License.
- A master's degree in mechanical engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- At least one year of experience as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring additional expertise in the relevant disciplines.
