The Bronx County District Attorneys Office (BXDA) seeks wellqualified staff whose diverse backgrounds contribute to serve the 1.4 million members of the Bronx community and to pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. BXDA has an opening for an experienced attorney to serve as Chief Privacy Officer. We seek an attorney with 5 years of experience in privacy protection and information security to join our General Counsels Division. The General Counsel Division provides a wide range of services to enhance and compliment the work of the other divisions and the Office as a whole. Most notably the General Counsel Division focuses on legal scholarship and training discovery compliance appellate and postconviction litigation civil litigation extraditions independent postconviction review privilege protection and professional responsibility. With wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment the Chief Privacy Officer will be responsible for interpreting and applying all applicable laws and regulations governing the disclosure of personal identifying information associated with all records on file including criminal case and staff records.
Note : MUST BE THE ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER TO APPLY (EITHER PERMANENT OR REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST). Those serving in comparable civil service titles will also be considered.
Job Responsibilities :
Specific duties will include but are not limited to the following :
- Establish and lead a privacy program for the BXDA consistent with applicable laws;
- Establish an internal privacy audit program;
- Undertake a comprehensive review of BXDA data and privacy activities and ensure that they are consistent with best practices and our legal requirements;
- Develop and manage an organizational policy development process that includes procedures to ensure our services are consistent with our legal obligations with respect to privacy protection and information security;
- Establish a process for receiving documenting tracking investigating and acting upon all complaints concerning BXDA privacy policies and procedures;
- Monitor and review the privacy policies and procedures to ensure they remain up to date;
- Provide leadership in the planning design and evaluation of privacy and securityrelated projects and activities;
- Periodically revise the privacy program to address changes in laws regulations or BXDA policy;
- Provide privacy guidance to assist in the identification implementation and maintenance of BXDA information policies and procedures;
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the privacy policies and procedures;
- Address any privacyrelated inquiries from employees customers and other stakeholders;
- Manage any investigations and incidents related to privacy breaches;
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance;
Maintain records of all privacyrelated activities and
All other projects as assigned.
Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in Information Technology Business or related field. A Juris Doctor degree is preferred but not required.
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in the field.
Knowledge of applicable privacy laws and regulations.
Excellent organizational and problemsolving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible clerical / administrative experience requiring independent decisionmaking concerning program management or planning allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical / administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical / administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
3. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical / administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
4. Education and / or experience equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. However all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative managerial executive or supervisory experience as described in 1 2 or 3 above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical / administrative experience (but not for the administrative managerial executive or supervisory experience described in 1 2 or 3 above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 years.
