The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185000 corners throughout the city. The Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP) a unit within SIM is committed to providing pedestrian (curb) ramps citywide that meet applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. Pedestrian ramps are a critical component in providing safe and accessible means of travel throughout New York City. Pedestrian ramps provide access on and off our streets and sidewalk and are an essential tool for all pedestrians especially aging New Yorkers and persons with disabilities.
PRP has an exciting opportunity to join a fastpaced collaborative innovative team. The selected candidate will be part of PRPs Engineering Team who is responsible for the design and management of pedestrian ramp projects design review of other projects the development of inspection criteria construction QA / QC and the tracking of pedestrian curb ramps and ADA compliancy issues within the city rightofway.
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional engineer the selected candidate will be responsible for the evaluation of existing pedestrian ramps development of accessible design solutions for pedestrian ramps (involving geometric design and grading) review of projects for compliancy with the Americans with Disabilities Act coordination with other DOT units agencies contractors consultants vendors and the public to successfully implement accessibility requirements resolve design issues and answer any accessibility questions that might arise in a project evaluation of technical infeasibilities and attend site visits as it relates to pedestrian ramps design and construction. The selected candidate will also manage pedestrian ramp contracts throughout the project life cycle. In coordination with NYC DDC the Engineering Team uses technical and project management expertise to ensure that the projects are on time on budget and within scope. Key responsibilities will include overseeing the preparation of the project scope the initial evaluation and recurring reassessment of the project budget monitoring and assessment of project schedules and identifying and mitigating risks that may impact successful completion of projects. The candidate will perform other related duties as assigned by the Engineering Director Senior Engineers and PRP Executive Staff.< / p>
Qualifications : < / b> < / p>
1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.< / p>< / p>
