The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Associate Fire Protection Inspector for the Rangehood Unit in the Bureau of Fire Prevention reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Inspector. The successful candidate will conduct citywide technical inspections, coordinate and supervise fire protection inspectors during complex inspections, perform oversight inspections and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of work, conduct in-service field hands-on training, assist with reviewing, evaluating, and processing submitted documents by inspectors, assist Scheduling/Intake Team with scheduling of field inspection assignments, verification, and routing adjustment and preparing draft responses to public inquiries Perform related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of the NYC Fire Code, and Rules of the City of New York. Excellent written and verbal skills. Have the ability to use Microsoft word, Access, Excel, FPIMS, and other internet based programs. Experience in performing inspections. Experience in performing inspections of Rangehood Systems that are required by the Fire Code, and/or the Rules of the City of New York, Referenced Standards, Building and Mechanical Codes. Works on special projects as needed. Training of new FPIs in the field. Ability to conduct field performance evaluations and post fire inspections.

Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following:
- the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables;
- the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials;
- the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or houses to detect potential fire and explosion hazards;
- the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Education from an accredited college or technical institution with specialization in fire science technology, chemistry, physics or engineering may be substituted for the experience requirement on the basis of one year of education (30 credits) for one year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years.
