The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865 FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Departments core values.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention cultivates a safer city for its citizens visitors and first responders by preventing loss of life and property damage from fire and other emergencies. We accomplish this 24 / 7 by identifying fire and life safety hazards; creating revising and enforcing the New York City Fire Code; reviewing plans for critical systems designed to protect and alert building occupants; licensing qualified companies to install and service fire protection equipment and systems; certifying individuals to monitor fire safety conditions; and educating individuals and businesses about fire safety. In addition the Bureau of Fire Prevention is critical partner with the Bureau of Fire Operations (Firefighters) and Bureau of Fire Investigations (Fire Marshals) providing assistance and guidance during postfire incidents and investigations; and coordinating with other City agencies on matters concerning fire and life safety. The Bureau consists of Fire Protection Inspectors lawyers engineers explosives experts and Fire Officers work together to save lives in New York City.

The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) seeks two (2) fulltime Administrative Inspectors Electrical NonManagerial in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Reporting directly to the Director of the Fire Alarm Inspection Unit the selected candidates will : Direct a subdivision of field inspectors who are performing life safety and emergency system inspections in public and private buildings and / or monitoring central stations to ensure conformance with codes standards plans and specifications. Interpret New York City rules and regulations. Perform administrative duties including evaluation of field reports reconsiderations technical inquiries and meetings with design engineers / contractors. Monitor highlevel projects. Conduct presentations. May serve as an area / borough manager assigning and coordinating inspection programs. May serve as departmental representative for citywide code committees. Perform related duties as needed.

ADMIN INSPECTOR (ELECTRICAL)NM 1007B

Qualifications :

1. Seven years of fulltime satisfactory experience as an electrician designer or inspector of electrical installations for light heat and / or power distribution traffic signals fire alarm detection or communication systems at least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial administrative or supervisory capacity; or

2. Five years of experience as described in 1 above at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial administrative or supervisory capacity and one of the following : (a) 60 credits towards a degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an accredited college or university; or (b) Two years of fulltime training in an acceptable electrical program in an accredited technical school; or

3. Completion of an apprentice program at least three years in length in the electrical trade or electrical inspection and either : (a) four years of experience as described in 1 above or (b) two years of experience as described in 1 above plus either 60 credits or two years of education as described in 2 above.

4. A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law and at least two years of experience as described in 1 above at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial administrative or supervisory capacity; or

5.Education and / or experience which is equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. All candidates must have at least two years of experience as described in 1 above at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial administrative or supervisory capacity.
