Job Summary:
The parks maintenance specialist is responsible for overseeing maintenance of ballfields, playing surfaces and athletics facilities. Work involves weekly ball field preparation, irrigation system maintenance, annual ballfield turf management, erosion control, painting, carpentry, masonry, and general construction; supervising maintenance staff; and preparing and reviewing required reports and records.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Responsible for operational and safety training of new hires.
· Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
· Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
· Handle discipline and termination of employees following company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Oversees and assists with performing grounds maintenance including mowing grass, trimming, landscaping, picking up leaves and trash, cleaning restrooms, and general park maintenance.
· Oversees and performs maintenance and repairs at City recreation fields and facilities when needed; ensures fields and facilities are clean and ready for recreation activities.
· Ensures the proper repair of fencing, park signs, picnic shelters, park restrooms, bleachers, playground equipment and fall surfaces, irrigation systems and other park amenities.
· Performs scheduled park maintenance duties including litter control, planting flowers and trees, applying fertilizer, weed control, aeration, seeding, installing mulch, and the application of sports field/court conditioner and clay.
· Responsible for purchasing maintenance tools, equipment, and materials; ensuring purchases stay within budget; submitting receipts and invoices for approval.
· Assists with setup and breakdown of PRT Downtown Festivals and Events as assigned.
· Completes and submits various reports and records including inspection reports, materials lists, purchase orders, and general office correspondence.
· Operates a variety of vehicles such as dump truck, tractor, front-end loader, backhoe, etc.
· Operates a variety of equipment such as mechanical, electrical and carpentry equipment as well as computer, telephone, tablet, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· OSHA safety requirements
· City ordinances and safety policies
· Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Minimum Education, Certifications, and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· At least three to five years of park, facility or ground maintenance experience.
· At least one to two years of related supervisory experience with park, facility or ground maintenance.
· Valid SC driver’s license.
Preferred Education, Certifications, and Experience:
· Associate degree in a related field.
· Preferred knowledge of turf management, ballfield maintenance and irrigation systems.
· Preferred knowledge of playground safety standards and processes.
Work Schedule and Overtime:
Monday – Friday typical hours are 7 am – 3 pm. Occasional weekend work may be required. Eligible for overtime.
Physical Demands/Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing and walking, holding hand tools, weed eaters, or operating mowers.
Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs. of force at times, carry, push, pull, crouch, reach, bend, stoop, and balance.
Must be able to work outside in the elements as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.

Salary : $41,912 - $50,128
