The City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join the Community Development Department as a full-time Civil Engineer- Plan Check. This position reviews and processes building plans and structural designs to determine completeness and compliance with applicable City, state, and federal building codes and associated standards.
SELECTION COMPONENTS:
- Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of April 22, 2025. A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Civil Engineer - Plan Check
- Experience: Three years of experience checking building plans and/or multi-phased structural designs.
- Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture.
- License or Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
- Registration as a California Professional Engineer or Architect, depending on assignment.
- Possession of or ability to obtain an ICC “Building Plans Examiner” certificate within six months of appointment.
