GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for assisting in economic crime investigations,
which may include reviewing cases and financial documentation, researching and analyzing relevant
data and information and contacting financial institutions or individuals involved. Reports to a Police
Sergeant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reviews and analyzes information related to suspected economic crimes including, but not limited to,
bank statements, law enforcement reports and organization documentation and prepares summary
reports for case files to assist the investigators, department management and prosecutor attorneys.
Conducts research and reports on identified criminal evidence or suspicious entries.
Researches background reports of investigative targets by reviewing a variety of reports to include
Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), court
reports, etc.; and prepares statistical reports regarding arrests, convictions, charges and other related
information; reviews arrest records for criteria that may meet the standards to send to federal court.
At the guidance of case detectives, reviews surveillance videos and photos to collect additional
evidence.
Makes necessary inquiries and schedules interviews with citizen victims and witnesses to obtain
additional information; collects evidence; communicates with law enforcement agencies and banking
institutions to coordinate and secure evidence or case information transfer; transcribes statements.
May be responsible for scanning case files into Laser fiche and oversee quality control of the scanned
documentation.
Prepares specialized data reporting and assists investigators with preparation of legal documents;
drafts letters and memorandums for case detectives.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Law Enforcement – Basic knowledge of Police Department policies, procedures, operations, and
- Accounting/Finance – Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices to include

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires 4 years of related administrative or technical experience in law enforcement operations, or
any equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state and federal criminal
history check; sex offender registry and credit check.

May be subject to the restrictions of a federal 6(e) order which restricts discussion and further
dissemination of information collected on federally adopted cases to unauthorized personnel.
