GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for responding to customer requests for
assistance, complaints, or reports of abnormal water consumption. Reports to the Water Service
Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Inspects customer’s premises for detection of leaks to determine cause of high water consumption or
repair verification; may advise or assist customers with minor repairs. Investigates water quality
complaints; takes water samples; performs backflushes; removes meters for appropriate testing;
performs flow checks and flushes. Organizes and sorts work orders for work unit. Completes a daily
log sheet, work orders, and other related documentation.
Operates and maintains assigned vehicles; performs regular vehicle maintenance and general
appearance checks, cleans vehicle and schedules preventative maintenance service.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Water Meters – Knowledge of the installation, operation, function and basic repair of water
meters, related plumbing, attachments, and sprinkler systems to include completing water service
inspections, installations, and problems related to irregular consumption, flow or pressure.
- Plumbing – General knowledge of plumbing codes and operation of codes enforcing agencies as

satisfaction.

- Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships
with employees at all levels, representatives from all departments, and outside agencies.
Effectively responds to and resolves complex inquiries and disputes.
- Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of
work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
- Judgement/Decision Making – Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and
evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
• Communication – Ability to effectively communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing,
to include the preparation of detailed logs which include numerical information.
• Mathematics – Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving water usage and flow rates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in the repair of residential and
commercial plumbing including water meter, backflow, and cross connection control systems, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history; a valid driver’s
license with acceptable background check.
This position requires a pre-employment medical evaluation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort.
