We’re Hiring: Accounting Tech- Utility Billing Clerk (AR Focused Finance Dept. Support)

Help Keep the Numbers (and the Community) Running Smoothly Accounting Tech- Utility Billing Clerk where you'll handle a mix of accounts receivable tasks and finance admin support, all while playing a key part in keeping our city running efficiently and responsibly.

What You'll Be Up To:
  • Handling accounts receivable duties for Utility Billing 

  • Preparing utility invoices, tracking payments, following up on outstanding balances, setting up utility accounts, and tracking utility usage

  • Keeping accurate records and supporting monthly reconciliations

  • Performing general accounting and clerical support tasks

  • Serving as front desk backup, answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting the public with professionalism and a smile

Minimum / Mandatory Education & Experience Requirements:

We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in accounting and office support. A typical candidate would have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus some college courses in accounting or finance and 3 years of related experience, OR

  • An Associate’s degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

  • Microsoft Office (especially Word & Excel) and standard office software

  • Professional communication, business writing, and phone etiquette

  • Recordkeeping, report preparation, and multitasking like a champ

  • Math principles, problem-solving, and financial accuracy

  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation (you’re the go-to proofreader)

And You Have the Skills To:

  • Use software and office tools with confidence

  • Communicate clearly and kindly, both in person and in writing

  • Stay organized under pressure and juggle competing deadlines

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

  • Collaborate well with city staff, council members, and the public

  • Keep cool in a busy office with lots of moving pieces

  • Strong reasoning, math, problem-solving skills combined with excellent judgment and professionalism

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Current office and accounting practices

  • Customer service procedures and public relations techniques

  • Microsoft Office (especially Excel & Word), databases, and standard office software

  • Basic math, grammar, spelling, and professional communication standards

Skills in:

  • Using office software, computers, and equipment effective

  • Communicating clearly with a variety of audiences

  • Time management, organization, multitasking, and accuracy

  • Providing professional, respectful service to the public and coworkers

  • Maintaining confidentiality and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment

Ability to:

  • Stay organized under pressure and juggle multiple priorities

  • Establish positive working relationships across departments

  • Communicate professionally, both orally and in writing

  • Maintain efficient records and financial systems

  • Adapt to interruptions and shifting tasks with grace

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects

  • Lift/move materials up to 5 pounds frequently, and up to 25 pounds occasionally

  • Operate a motorized vehicle as needed for job-related tasks

  • Maintain manual dexterity and coordination (over 50% of the time) to operate computers, phones, and standard office equipment

  • Primarily indoor office environment with standard workplace conditions

  • Fast-paced and collaborative setting with regular interaction with the public and other departments

Salary : $53,448 - $64,980
