Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Information Technology Director, the Senior Information Technology Technician is responsible for implementation, technical support, and maintenance of the City's information system and assisting its users. This position is expected to prioritize projects and act under the direction of the IT Director in performing these duties. This position will monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. Will test, adjust, repair or replace data, voice and/or video equipment and communication cables. Will coordinate and implement security measures for information systems to regulate access to computer data files and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure of information.
Essential Functions:
- Advises and solves hardware and software issues of the user
- Operates master consoles in order to monitor the performance of access and use.
- Monitors network performance in order to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
- Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintains control records;
- Refers problems to the proper support vendor, coordinates testing with their technicians and follows up on problem resolution.
- Perform risk assessment and execute tests of IT systems to ensure function and continuity of business computer related programs and activities and security measures.
- Participates in the development, operation, and maintenance of the City's computer network, including all hardware, operating systems, systems software, installation and maintenance.
- Installs and configures software on workstations as required.
- Provides setup and configuration of all workstations.
- Provides setup and configuration of computing peripherals such as printers, CD and DVD read/writers, monitors, scanners, mice, special keyboards and other equipment as necessary.
- Troubleshoots computer and peripheral issues and provides hardware replacement, cleaning or repair as needed.
- Leads in implementation and addressing computer networking issues including hardware and software issues.
- Assists in research, reviews, recommends, and develops requests for hardware, software, and computer supply purchases.

- Attend meetings;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Experience: Three years of related experience preferred.
Education: IT Certifications with Microsoft, Cyber Security and/or enterprise networking preferred. Must maintain current KS driver's license.
Background Check: Pass KCJIS background check with fingerprinting required.
Skills: Knowledge of industry-accepted computer standards, procedures, and related equipment is required. This employee must be able to operate computer-related equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing is essential.
Problem Solving: Independent problem solving is involved in this position.
Decision Making: Independent decision making is involved in this position. This employee makes decisions about prioritizing daily assignments, help desk priorities and performing daily duties in the most efficient manner.
Accountability: This employee is responsible for City equipment. Employee does have limited authority to purchase necessary supplies within established guidelines.
Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other City employees and vendors is expected.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None, however the employee in this position may have lead worker responsibilities and may also make decisions in the absence of the Information Technology Director
Working Conditions: No adverse working conditions exist within this position. Working in an office setting with computers is the primary aspect of this position.
Physical Requirements: The Senior Informational Technical Technician's physical job demands include occasional maximum lift of 40 lbs from floor to waist; occasional maximum lift of 40 lbs from waist to overhead; occasional maximum carry of 40 lbs, 20 feet; occasional maximum horizontal push/pull of 15 lbs force; occasional maximum grip force of 20 lbs; occasional climb; occasional forward reach; occasional overhead reach; occasional crouch/bend; occasional crouch/kneel; occasional neck flexion, occasional neck extension; continuous hand coordination; frequent sit; frequent stand; and frequent walk.
